Abstract—This paper gives a brief show of how the ICT’s can be a useful tool to improve the citizens’ participation in the local government. We present, in a short introduction, the development of democracy and its models together with an analysis of the importance of technology in the democratic processes. Finally, we present some of the projects that are related to the use of new technologies in order to help more citizens to get involved in some governmental actions. Those projects we will present are in development inside our research group Geomática Gestión y Optimización de Sistemas, in the Universidad Industrial de Santander, Bucaramanga, Colombia.
